F.A.Q.

Do I need to be referred?

Unlike a Medical Specialist, you do not need to be referred by your General Dentist in order to make an appointment with Dr. Gould.

Do I need radiographs (X-rays)?

Radiographs show the bone condition around the roots and the shape/length of the root. These radiographs are essential to be able to finalize a diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan..

You will need to contact your General Dentist regarding forwarding current or previous radiographs to   Dr. Gould’s office prior to the examination appointment, otherwise new radiographs will need to be taken. Radiographs are a very important and essential part of the diagnostic process.

If required, the radiographs necessary for a complete evaluation will be recommended and used to complement those taken by your dentist.

Does it hurt?

Our patients tell us that they felt little or no discomfort during treatment.

Furthermore, most patients are surprised and pleased at how little post-operative pain they experience.

Many have even taken the time to send a note of appreciation to express their thanks.

The use of our CO2 and Millennium Nd:YAG lasers are part of the reason for these positive results. Another reason is a highly sensitive electrically controlled device which gently releases a dental anesthetic, thereby minimizing discomfort.

Does my insurance cover the fees?

Payment for an examination appointment is due and payable at the time of the appointment and our office will submit a claim to your dental insurance company for your reimbursement. Due to limits imposed by some dental plans, this examination charge may not be covered.

However, for any proposed treatment subsequent to the examination appointment, our office will accept insurance assignment so that you would pay the “estimated” patient portion at the time of the appointment. Ultimately, however, it is the patient’s responsibility for any charges not covered by your dental plan.

Our fees are based on the recommended “Fee Guide for Specialists in Periodontics” which is approved by the B.C. Dental Association.

However, in most cases, dental insurance companies base their reimbursement on the “Fee Guide for Dental Treatment Services provided by General Practitioners.” Due to this, reimbursement from your insurance carrier may be lower than the amount claimed.

On request, a pre-determination can be sent to your dental insurance company for any proposed treatment.  Keep in mind that your plan may have a yearly maximum benefit which may be based on a “calendar year” but some plans are based on a “benefit year”.

What will it cost?

Our fees are based on the recommended “Fee Guide for Specialists in Periodontics” which is approved by the B.C. Dental Association.
