What is a Periodontist?

Periodontists are highly skilled specialists in the care and treatment of gums.

Healthy gums are what you require if you want a fresh breath and good strong teeth throughout your life.

During your visit Dr. Gould will examine your gums for colour, firmness and bone structure. He will then discuss his findings with you in detail and later forward this information to your dentist.

Most periodontal problems, when found early, can be solved by extensive deep cleaning. In this case, you can achieve added benefits through a program of regular dental care at home. Laser disinfection of the pocket with the Periowave System can often add to the beneficial effects of the deep cleaning.

If our findings show that you have a more advanced case of gum disease, you may need minor reshaping or repositioning to improve either the health or appearance of your gums. Alternatively, by applying special proteins to the root surface, it may be possible to actually regenerate lost bone and gum attachment.

Gum tissue that has receded can be strengthened and, in many cases, exposed or sensitive roots can be covered over using newer techniques of periodontal plastic surgery and microsurgery. This combination, along with the use of the CO2 laser, can often result in the need for minimal incisions, a smaller surgical site, more rapid healing and less postoperative discomfort.
